“No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp  or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign forever and ever.” Rev 22:3-5

The final chapter of Revelation invites us to imagine our world differently, once the Lord has returned as He promised He would, and there is no longer a barrier between heaven and earth. Imagine what it will be like One Day to live in a world with a new cosmic centre and the curse broken that began in Eden. Imagine a new world where everyone is serving the Lamb and there is no longer any unemployment, every person is engaged in activities which cultivate dignity, self-worth and enhance the new creation. Imagine One Day seeing God face to face and being overwhelmed by His love, power and grace every day. No more temptation and no more sin, the hiding and shame of the first Eden, gone forever.

Imagine a world where all the hierarchies of power, money and poverty no longer exist and everyone is equal before God as they bear His name. No more discrimination or racism or carrying of burdens from the past. Imagine living in a world where you no longer need to pay your taxes to keep SAA airborne or Eskom in business. In the new world Jesus ushers in there will be no need for a lamp as God Himself will provide the light required to sustain life. Imagine being welcomed into this new world by Jesus Himself because you are one of those who called on His Name and believed in Him in your brief life on planet earth as we know it now. You will experience the amazing privilege of reigning forever with Him in taking care of His universe, which will of course be far greater and beautiful than we ever thought.

Imagine being one of those people who cannot enter this new world because you ended up on the wrong side of grace. You did not believe that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life, but chose rather to believe in some other philosophy of life which does not lead to eternal life. Revelation is clear we all choose our final destination.

Prayer: Father, thank you that through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, every believer has an amazing future to look forward to.
