This is what the Lord says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls, Jeremiah 6:16.

We are privileged to live in the most amazing times of rapid change and incredible innovation. Artificial Intelligence being one of the more recent can be defined as, “the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks normally requiring human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages.”

Wow!! … Rather cool don’t you think?

The human mind truly is incredibly gifted and one can only marvel at what could and will be achieved through AI in decades to come. But why is it that with all the helpful technological progress we make, the world around us often seems to be in a state of unhelpful erosive regress? Politicians fight unashamedly, the economy slides unhindered, student’s burn things unrepentantly and referees make blatantly bad calls which reignite hostile emotions last experienced in the Anglo-Boor War.

It is I think because of the gross neglect of Spiritual Intelligence (SI).

And by SI I do not mean we should embrace the multiple avenues of easy enlightenment offered by many ‘spiritual gurus’ today, but refer rather to those individuals who choose to take the longer, harder road of enlightenment specific to the Christian worldview. These are men like Jeremiah who understand that in order for an individual, a family or a nation to move forward, it may first have to look back, “This is what the Lord says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls, Jeremiah 6:16. These paths are walked by those humble enough to acknowledge they may have lost their way:

  • Although ancient they are never out of date.
  • Although good they are not always the most attractive.
  • Although hard they are strangely restful.

Unfortunately AI like any other form of human intelligence will become arrogant and unhelpful without SI.

Prayer: Father thank you for the wonderful gift of our minds and the ability to be incredibly creative. We ask that you will keep us humble and submitted to your grace so that all we create will serve your Kingdom of Peace in this world.
