Ikhaya Lethemba Masakhe is our mission which we operate within the Walmer (Gqebera) Township, Port Elizabeth. All funds go towards the 3 day per week feeding scheme as well as keeping some people employed in making cement bricks which are sold at cost to the local community.
Now that the drought has been broken, we will once again concentrate on our vegetable garden. Dig over and fertilize and then plant veggies again.
The Township has expanded into a new area known as “Airport Valley”. This area now houses the poorest of poor. We are busy talking to locals in the area as well as a person who resides there and also works in our Church gardens in the hope of extending our work there.
Our thoughts are positive as we plan to expand our feeding scheme into that area.
We still, after many meetings with the municipality, have no running water or electricity. We will continue to apply pressure and hopefully by God’s grace will these facilities be granted to uplift our present bucket toilet and water tanks.
Some of our faithful “Gogo’s” (Grannies) have passed on to the good Lord and we have assisted with funerals as well as transport to and from hospitals. We trust that our teachings are making a better place for those “Gogo’s”.
We are a registered NPO (071-590-NPO) and all donations are truly appreciated. The contact and banking details are that of Summerstrand United Church – Reference: Walmer Outreach. For any further details, please contact the church office.
We thank you for your support that assists us in helping those desperately in need of everything.
